Senior skills shortage a problem for R&D in UK according to ABPI

An on-going shortage in skills of candidates for senior roles is leading to dangers in the UK’s standing in innovation in pharma. This depressing analysis has come from none other than the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, the body representing big pharma in the UK. Pharma businesses are being forced to look abroad and this is slowing project, according to its report entitled “Bridging the skills gap in the biopharmaceutical industry”. The biggest concerns were for candidates in bioinformatics, health informatics, statistics and data mining. Meanwhile, the House of Commons Science and Technology Committee has called for extra investment in the life sciences sector if the UK is to remain a science superpower.
